Ben Carson says he expects to work ‘for the rest of my life’ to save the US

Dr. Ben Carson said Sunday that he is expecting to fight ‘for the rest of my life’ for his country, regardless of whether this work is done in or out of the White House.

Carson previously worked as secretary of the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development during former President Donald Trump’s presidency, and is rumored to be on Trump’s shortlist for potential vice presidential candidates. During a Sunday interview, Carson was asked if he is expecting to be part of Trump’s administration should the former president return to power.

“I am expecting to work for the rest of my life to save our country,” Carson said on Fox News’s Sunday Morning Futures with Maria Bartiromo. “Whether I do that from inside or outside of the government is up to God.”

Carson also discussed recent polls showing Trump doing well in major states ahead of Election Day, and predicted that the former president’s performance in polling will continue to improve. Polling data for states that Trump lost to President Joe Biden in 2020, like Pennsylvania, currently show the former president leading, and polling for Virginia, a traditionally blue state, indicates the two candidates are tied.

The topic of border security was also addressed in the interview, during which Carson stated that this is one of many problems the U.S. faces that are “eminently” fixable. The problem, Carson contended, is that these issues are “self-inflicted,” and that the country is currently a “laughingstock” due to the country’s lack of proper leadership.

Carson is one of several candidates who reportedly received vetting materials from the Trump campaign on potentially working as Trump’s vice presidential candidate. Carson previously stated in January that he had spoken with Trump on what the two of them can do “to save this country.”

Amid Trump’s competitive polling in Virginia, Gov. Glenn Youngkin (R-VA) stated this past week that this data reflects voters wanting the former president back instead of another term of Biden’s “weak America.” The governor met with Trump on Wednesday to discuss several topics, including how the former president can flip the state in November.
