If you have ever wondered why only 21% of Chicago’s 8th grade students are proficient in reading, here’s a clue: The Chicago Teacher’s Union (CTU) is more concerned about what they want rather than what students need. Activism and greed instead of academic skills are the reason.

The Chicago Teachers Union has been “negotiating” with the city for several things: a 9% pay raise each year through 2028, free abortions and related medical expenses for IVF etc., $2000 for each migrant, every teacher and worker to be trained on LGBTQ+ issues in order to qualify for their position, turn no longer used schools into housing for migrants, mandating every school has at least one “gender-neutral” bathroom, and demanding that teachers not be forced to tell parents if their child rejects their gender. Also paying a “stipend” of $1000 for every extra student over the contractual limit.

That’s an agenda with a price tag of $50 Billion.

“These demands read more like a political agenda than a serious contract intent on supporting teachers’ wages and benefits, and promoting the education of Chicago students,” Smith said in a statement last month. These demands are far outside the scope of traditional bargaining, putting taxpayer dollars on the line in pursuit of more union power and social activism.”

“We are in the process of calculating the cost of these demands, but we can already tell that funding them will require a sweeping overhaul of finances and new revenues – meaning more and higher taxes for residents. Chicagoans deserve to be represented by a neutral party who is looking out for their finances.” Mailee Smith, senior director of labor policy at the Illinois Policy Institute (Fox)

Keep in mind that the Mayor of Chicago, Brandon Johnson, is a former CTU coordinator who was “put forward” by the Chicago Teachers Union to run for Mayor. They are tight, and his sympathetic ear was part of why he ended up in office.

Will this presidential election be the most important in American history?

The leader of the CTU, Stacy Davis Gates, came under fire after calling school choice “racist” then promptly sending her son to a private school. That’s not counting the accusation that she used an “unlawful deduction” at her home in Indiana.

The Chicago Teachers Union is pushing for an expensive agenda that will not help Chicago students actually learn something, it will conceivably break the school district as well as the city itself.  The $50 Billion+ price tag is about the same as the base tax receipts for the entire state.
