House Speaker Mike Johnson (R-LA) received plaudits from Paul Ryan, a member of the Fox Corporation board of directors, for allowing Democrats to take control of the chamber last week.

Democrats effectively pushed the Biden administration’s plan through the House, putting Johnson under pressure. Punchbowl said that Johnson granted Biden “very much everything” he requested “without having to concede anything in exchange.”

The Democratic win served as a warning that certain Republicans frequently abstain from using their position to advance conservative ideals that are well-liked by the grassroots. It seems like Democrats never hesitate to exploit their authority.

Johnson was able to find his voice and his feet. Ryan told Axios this week, “He did it as a statesman, sacrificing his own personal political fortune for the larger good that he believes in.”

Though few conservatives share the former House Speaker’s assessment of Johnson’s historic move, it does seem to reflect the mainstream establishment’s viewpoint.

Brendan Buck, a top Ryan staffer, recently wrote an opinion piece for the New York Times with the title, “A party unable to bring its program to the floor for a vote is no longer a viable majority.”

Ryan made this remark when he was a powerful member of the Fox Corporation board of directors. Ryan has been on the board since March 2019 and chairs the Fox Corporation’s Nomination and Corporate Governance Committee.

Some of his powers include defining “wide business policies,” determining “strategic direction,” and supervising “management identification and management of risks,” according to Fox Corporation.

Because of his position, viewers may wonder why Ryan does not share his ideas with them during Fox News and Fox Business media coverage.
