Vivek Ramaswamy Lays Out What Must Happen If Trump Wants Him to Be His VP

In a bold move some may say borders on hubris, Vivek Ramaswamy, who finished fourth in the GOP Presidential Primary this week and subsequently suspended his campaign, has gone public with a list of demands for a potential job.

Though his statements were public, the target was former President Donald Trump, and the job in question was Vice President of the United States.

Trump is on track to become the GOP nominee. Multiple polls show him beating President Biden in a rematch of the 2020 election. Ramaswamy, along with a dozen other notables are vying for the VP slot.

Ramaswamy has sparingly attacked Trump during his six-month-long presidential campaign and along the way, has noted alignment with Trump on many issues. In December, Ramaswamy told voters that he and Trump were the only put America first candidates.

When Colorado and Maine moved to bar Trump’s name from appearing on the ballot, Ramaswamy suggested that other GOP candidates follow his lead and request their names be removed from the ballots of those states.

Following Monday evening’s suspension of his campaign, Ramaswamy first urged his supporters to throw their support behind Trump. The next day he urged all candidates to suspend their campaigns and support Trump as well.

Speaking with radio host Glenn Beck on Tuesday, Ramaswamy responded to questions about the possibility of serving with Trump in the White House.

When Beck asked for his thoughts on serving as Vice President, Ramaswamy replied humbly while carefully noting that he had significant support that could prove helpful to Trump: “I haven’t really given that a lot of thought until a million people asked me that.”

As the interview unfolded, Ramaswamy shared a few conditions that would need to be met before he would consider serving as Trump’s VP. The first was a one-on-one discussion with Trump on the matter. The former presidential candidate said: “That would need to be a discussion with Trump where I would say, ‘Listen, I want to make sure we’re on the same page.”

Ramaswamy appeared to draw policy and priority lines in the sand as conditions for his serving with the former President, However, some have noted there is a very high probability Ramaswamy knew Trump aligns with these issues.

Ramaswamy said, “I don’t want to build a new building for the FBI. I want to shut it down. I don’t want to have crony subsidies to carbon capture pipelines. I want to end them. I want to shut down many of these agencies.”

Ramaswamy also called out a few leaders by name, noting his desire for more accountability in general and specifically, that several individuals be removed from positions of power. He said: “I do think we need accountability in our own Republican Party. That we shouldn’t support the likes of Ronna McDaniel sitting in that seat,’” referring to the Republican National Committee’s chair.

Also aligning with previous statements Trump has made, Ramaswamy said that the new president “should on Day One, actually pardon every peaceful January 6th  protester and see that through.”

Veering from Trump slightly on the COVID vaccine issue, Ramaswamy said: “[Leaders should] admit that there were some mistakes made in the past, and we’re going to correct for them with the vaccine and make sure that vaccine liabilities for companies — that we don’t get a special shield from being sued.’”

Diplomatically spotlighting his history of boldly defining his positions, an attribute many admire even if they disagree with a particular view, Ramasamy wrapped the interview up by saying: “And I’d want to make sure we’re on the same page about those things. Right now, I don’t know if we are. I’m the only one who’s taken a lot of those positions.”

In a parting statement indicating the successful businessman does not lack self-confidence, Ramaswamy said: “In order to be Vice President, I’d need an agreement with Donald Trump that he agrees with me and is committed to seeing each of those things through, all the way through.”
