Nancy Pelosi, the former speaker of the House, said she supports keeping Republican Speaker Mike Johnson in his position.

House Minority Leader Hakeem Jeffries (D-N.Y.) said that Pelosi (D-Calif.) agreed with his proposal to keep Johnson (R-La.) in his position as Speaker of the House.

“It will require a bipartisan coalition and cooperation, according to Jeffries, since House GOP are either unable or unwilling to subdue hardline MAGA Republicans and Marjorie Taylor Greene.”

“To avoid a repeat of the pandemonium from last year, [Jeffries] indicated that Democrats would vote to endorse Johnson—a highly uncommon move,” according to Reuters.

Pelosi reaffirmed that she is in favor of Johnson continuing in his role, saying that she must “protect the integrity of the House and…not allow it to be messed up by rubbish.”

Pelosi previously stated of Johnson, “Personally, I appreciate his genuineness; I disagree with his views, but that is acceptable.” “If they tap you to be the speaker while you are simply sitting on the back bench, they should not complain when you do not know how to be a speaker from day one,” she continued.

Meanwhile, Republican Georgia Rep. Marjorie Taylor Greene has persistently advocated for Speaker Johnson’s removal. In answer to Greene’s request, Pelosi made the statements. Representatives Paul Gosar (R-Ariz.) and Thomas Massie (R-Ky.) back Greene’s idea.

According to recent reports, the Speaker told supporters that he would support the removal of committee members who do not support his preferred legislative agendas. He also made hints that he would be in favor of changing House rules, including the move to vacate, at the end of the legislative term.

Massie listed Johnson’s “three betrayals” as follows: He has given up on completing the 12 different appropriations bills, in addition to pushing through unjustified monitoring of Americans and enacting a package comprising $95 billion in foreign aid without safeguarding America’s southern border—something he had promised would not happen.
