Self-declared lame duck President Joe Biden has announced in a Washington Post Op-Ed, protected from view by a pay wall, his “long-awaited proposal for changes at the U.S. Supreme Court” including term limits and enforceable code of ethics for the nine justices, raising a serious question considering his recent rhetoric against Donald J. Trump.

Just who is the real “threat to democracy” in the United States? Trump is certainly guilty of making remarks about how he intends to change things back to the way they were under his presidency.

Biden, on the other hand, is now putting his—or at least his handlers’—agenda in black and white. Just answer these questions:

• Who has tried to ban an entire class of firearms, while treating the right protected by the Second Amendment as if it were a government-regulated privilege?
• Whose policies have attempted to gut the Second Amendment, even after three high court rulings over the past 16 years have affirmed the amendment protects a fundamental individual right?
• Who wants to impose term limits on Supreme Court justices, thus treating the Judicial branch as subordinate to the Legislative and Executive branches, and who wants to amend the Constitution to make it possible?
• Who literally disenfranchised 14 million-plus primary voters by leaving the 2024 campaign, allowing his own vice president—who has never won a presidential primary race on her own—to ostensibly step into his presumed spot on the November ticket?

According to the Associated Press, “The likely Democratic nominee, Vice President Kamala Harris, who has sought to frame her race against Republican ex-President Donald Trump as “a choice between freedom and chaos,” quickly endorsed the Biden proposal. She added that the changes are needed because “there is a clear crisis of confidence facing the Supreme Court.”

If one cares to discuss a “crisis of confidence,” the best place to begin might be in Monday’s Rasmussen survey, which shows 60 percent of Americans believe the country is headed down the wrong track, while a paltry 35 percent think the country is going in the right direction.

Rasmussen’s Daily Presidential Tracking Poll for Monday shows only 28 percent of likely voters “strongly approve” of the job Biden is doing, while 43 percent “strongly disapprove.” It’s essentially the same spread from this time last year.

The National Review, unlike other media outlets, hasn’t tried to sanitize Biden’s divisive and incendiary rhetoric, reporting accurately how the Delaware Democrat has called Trump a “threat to democracy” during an NBC interview a week ago. He even posted the same allegation in a message on “X” (formerly Twitter) in which he stated, “Donald Trump is a genuine threat to this nation. He’s a threat to our freedom. He’s a threat to our democracy. He’s literally a threat to everything America stands for.”

There is a difference of historical opinion about who once declared, “Accuse your opponent of what you are doing, to create confusion and to inculcate voters against evidence of your own guilt.” Some say it was political theorist Saul Alinsky. Others say it was Nazi propaganda minister Josef Goebbels.

Donald Trump is a genuine threat to this nation.

He’s a threat to our freedom. He’s a threat to our democracy. He’s literally a threat to everything America stands for.

The Associated Press quotes from Biden’s Op-Ed in the WaPo: “I have great respect for our institutions and separation of powers. What is happening now is not normal, and it undermines the public’s confidence in the court’s decisions, including those impacting personal freedoms. We now stand in a breach.”

This cannot possibly be true, say critics, considering he wants to slap “reforms” on the Supreme Court. Perhaps he skipped high school Civics classes, which explain the “separate-but-equal” branches of government. This won’t pass the constitutional smell test, critics assert, so he wants to change the constitution.

The United States is a constitutional Republic, where the word “Democracy” is often misused, and sometimes even misunderstood. What cannot be misunderstood is that a party complaining about a threat to democracy by a candidate now running for a second term has overlooked the obvious: If Donald Trump is such a threat, why didn’t he destroy things between 2017 and 2021, when he was in office?

Every Democrat running for office seems to be focusing on two things: Donald Trump and abortion. Apparently, they would rather not discuss national security, public safety, the economy, the border, the cost of groceries or even the price of a gallon of gas; all things which are important to voters, including gun owners, who also happen to be taxpayers.

The election is less than 100 days away. If gun owners want to change things and be at the front of a political tsunami, they must vote. There will be no excuses for sitting out this election.

Look at it this way: On Tuesday, Nov. 5, you have a chance to vote…unless, of course, you consider voting “a threat to democracy.”
