On Friday, the Ontario Progressive Conservative Party ousted Carleton MPP Goldie Ghamari. The move came following her meeting with British activist Tommy Robinson, which drew the ire of Muslim groups over his stance on Islam and immigration.
Ghamari defended the meeting, saying she was "not aware" of Robinson's controversial past and simply spoke with him because he wanted to know more about the Iranian regime's activities in Canada. Nonetheless, the National Council of Canadian Muslims demanded that Ford remove her from the government.
"Today, the premier has made the decision to remove MPP Goldie Ghamari from the Ontario PC caucus, effective immediately," Ford's office said in a statement. "This decision follows repeated instances of serious lapses in judgment and a failure to collaborate constructively with caucus leadership and as a team member. While this decision did not come easily, it has become clear that MPP Ghamari can no longer continue in her role within our caucus."
"When one door closes, another one opens," Ghamari wrote in a post, adding a "peace out" emoji.
The decision was celebrated by the NCCM, which attributed it to "advocacy" and "the thousands of emails sent to the premier."
Robinson deemed the verdict "a big win for the Islamists."
"I chose to meet with him because I am an Iranian-Canadian immigrant who has been speaking out on behalf of human rights violations by the Islamic Regime in Iran against Iranians in Iran and their attempts to spy and threaten Iranians in Canada," Ghamari said in defense of the meeting with Robinson, per CP24.
Following an appearance in Calgary earlier this week, Robinson was arrested for allegedly failing to truthfully declare on his electronic visa application whether he "had been arrested, charged, or convicted of any crime anywhere in the world."
Ghamari defended the Brit, questioning why he was targeted while authorities have seemingly ignored an open supporter of the Islamic Regime who "constantly breaches his bail obligations" and "threaten[s] politicians."
"Can someone explain this double standard?" she asked. "I'm confused."
