Following her four-day stint at NBC News, former Republican National Committee Chairwoman Ronna McDaniel expects to be fully paid out from her two-year contract.

Because she did not breach the terms of the contract, McDaniel expects to be compensated for her $300,000-a-year contract for two years. After announcing her hire on Friday, NBC parted ways with McDaniel on Monday after her roughly 20-minute appearance on Meet the Press aired.

“No organization, particularly a newsroom, can succeed unless it is cohesive and aligned,” NBC News Chairman Cesar Conde said in an email to NBC staff. “Over the last few days, it has become clear that this appointment undermines that goal.”

McDaniel is exploring defamation and hostile work environment reparations from the fallout of her hire, according to Politico. According to a source familiar with McDaniel, she reportedly spoke with attorney Bryan Freedman, who represented ousted news anchors such as Megyn Kelly, Chris Cuomo, Don Lemon, and Tucker Carlson.

“The part that pisses me off most about this is not necessarily that they folded; it’s [that] they allowed their talent to drag Ronna through the mud and make it seem like they were innocent bystanders,” the source close to McDaniel said.

McDaniel has remained silent about the fallout from her hiring and firing. Her allies have blamed the network for the drama surrounding her hire and for not having met with top network talent ahead of publicly announcing the hire. They said McDaniel was misled to think NBC would be welcoming to her.

The network faced criticism of the hire from many of its on-air hosts, especially its left-leaning affiliate MSNBC. Rachel Maddow spent 29 minutes of her show talking about her distaste for the network’s decision to hire McDaniel. Chuck Todd also criticized the decision to hire McDaniel.

“There’s a reason why there’s a lot of journalists at NBC News uncomfortable with this because many of our professional dealings with the RNC over the last six years have been met with gaslighting, have been met with character assassination,” Todd said on Meet the Press on Sunday.

Some at the network still worry the back-and-forth moves are a bad look for NBC and will strengthen Republican backlash against the network.

“Political reporters here didn’t take part in the backlash, nor did they get to give input on the hire,” one NBC News journalist told Semafor. “But they’ll be the ones who have to pick up the pieces with sources who are now dismayed with the organization.”
