Leftist journalist Ken Klippenstein published a lengthy, hacked dossier on Ohio Sen. JD Vance on Thursday, resulting in X suspending Klippenstein’s account.

The dossier potentially came from Trump campaign materials that the Iranian regime obtained through hacking. Iran has given Trump campaign materials to multiple outlets, journalists, and organizations that had, until Thursday, refused to publish the materials.

Elon Musk, who owns X, said in a social media post on Thursday that he banned Klippenstein’s account over the decision to publish the Vance dossier.

“This is one of the most egregious, evil doxxing actions we’ve ever seen. Presidential candidates are not speculatively in danger – there have already been two attempts on @realDonaldTrump’s life. Moreover, the doxxing included detailed information on the addresses of their children,” Musk said.

Klippenstein, on his substack, justified his decision to publish the hacked dossier, which he said was “offered” to him, though suggests that the offer did not come from Iran.

“The dossier has been offered to me and I’ve decided to publish it because it’s of keen public interest in an election season. It’s a 271-page research paper the Trump campaign prepared to vet now vice presidential candidate J.D. Vance. As far as I can tell, it hasn’t been altered, but even if it was, its contents are publicly verifiable. I’ll let it speak for itself,” Klippenstein wrote.

In addition to hacking the Trump campaign, the Iranian regime has sought to undermine and stop Trump’s White House run through other means, including attempted assassination.

Prosecutors have charged a Pakistani man with attempting to have Trump assassinated. Authorities arrested Asif Merchant in July for allegedly attempting to pay potential assassins up to $1 million to kill the former president. Merchant has pleaded not guilty.

“This dangerous murder-for-hire plot was allegedly orchestrated by a Pakistani national with close ties to Iran and is straight out of the Iranian regime’s playbook,” FBI Director Christopher Wray said in a statement. “A foreign-directed plot to kill a public official, or any U.S. citizen, is a serious threat to our national security and will be met with the full might and resources of the FBI. Protecting Americans from terrorists remains our highest priority.”
